Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V)
The WISC–V is an individually administered clinical assessment for children. It provides an opportunity to gain critical insights into children’s cognitive functioning including cognitive strengths and weaknesses related to learning disabilities, attention disorders, intellectual disability, and giftedness. The WISC–V takes approximately one hour to administer and consists of a series of short sub-tests that generates a Full Scale IQ (which represents a child’s general intellectual ability) as well as information on specific cognitive domains (i.e. verbal comprehension, visual spatial, fluid reasoning, working memory, and processing speed).

The main benefits of a WISC assessment include:
-
Early identification of reading and learning issues
-
Useful in identifying learning disabilities
-
Understanding of an individual’s learning profile
-
Identification of gifted children
-
Helps the child’s school make appropriate accommodations and develop learning plans
-
Ability to determine learning processes, which includes both strengths and weaknesses and the impact these might have on student performance
